What’s open and closed on Remembrance Day in Winnipeg

Some businesses, services and organizations will be closed or operating at reduced hours for Remembrance Day on Monday. Here’s a look at what’s open and closed in Winnipeg.

City services and facilities

All City of Winnipeg offices will be closed on Monday.

Garbage and recycling will not be picked up on Monday. Bins should be put out one day later for next week only. You can find your collection day on the city’s website, or by contacting 311 by phone or email at 311@winnipeg.ca.

The Brady Road landfill and other waste collection depots will also be closed on Monday.

Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule. Bus drivers will pull over in a safe location at 11 a.m. on Monday to observe a moment of silence.

Winnipeg Transit services will be free on Monday for Armed Forces veterans and those currently serving, including cadets and reservists. Transit will also be free for one relative or friend accompanying military personnel. Those who wish to use this service can do so by wearing their military uniform or by presenting a military or military service identification card when they get on the bus.

Winnipeg’s animal services agency will be closed on Monday.

All Winnipeg Public Library locations will be closed on Remembrance Day.

The city’s indoor pools, fitness and leisure centres will be closed on Monday, with the exception of the Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex, which is open from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., and the Margaret Grant Pool and Pan Am Pool, which are open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Brookside, Transcona and St. Vital cemeteries will remain open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but the administration office at Brookside Cemetery will be closed on Monday.

Shopping

Retailers are prohibited from opening between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Remembrance Day in Manitoba, with a few exceptions.

Most grocery stores will open in the afternoon, but hours will vary.

St. Vital Centre, Polo Park, Outlet Collection Winnipeg and Garden City Shopping Centre will be open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Remembrance Day.

Kildonan Place will be open from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Remembrance Day. Northgate mall will also be open until 8 p.m.

Grant Park Shopping Centre will be open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday. Portage Place will be closed.

All Liquor Marts in Winnipeg and Brandon will open at 1 p.m., and will be open until 8 p.m. or 10 p.m., depending on the location.

Rural Liquor Marts will also open at 1 p.m. Closing hours on Monday will vary depending on location, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Museums, galleries and activities

The Manitoba Museum and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights will be closed on Monday. However, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights will offer free admission this weekend for veterans and active service members, along with up to four family members.

The Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq, Fort Whyte Alive and the Royal Aviation Museum will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Remembrance Day.

The Manitoba Children’s Museum will be open from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.

The Assiniboine Park Zoo will be open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and The Leaf biomes will be open from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m.

The Forks Market will operate under its regular hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., but some retail tenants may choose to be closed or open earlier or later at their discretion.
