At least one person was hit when someone drove a car through Winnipeg’s Portage and Main intersection during a planned protest Wednesday over the death of a woman who was hit by a police car on Monday in a homeless encampment.

A woman was struck by a car at Portage and Main early Wednesday afternoon after a person drove their vehicle through a protest at the downtown Winnipeg intersection.

A video taken by CBC News shows several attendees at a protest at Portage Avenue and Main Street trying to block a car and jumping on top of it.

A woman holding her bike is then seen walking in front of the vehicle before it accelerates. She falls to the ground after the vehicle drags her bike as it turns down Portage Avenue.

The woman who was hit is then helped up by people nearby as others chase after the vehicle.

Winnipeg police had warned of traffic disruptions due to a protest at Portage Avenue and Main Street at noon.

The protest was held after Winnipeg police said Tuesday that a woman died after being hit by a police car that was driving through a small riverside park off River Avenue on Monday night.
