Brandon motorcyclist killed in head-on crash on southwestern Manitoba highway
A 48-year-old Brandon man is dead after a head-on collision between his motorcycle and an SUV on a southwestern Manitoba highway.
Blue Hills RCMP were called around 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday with a report of the crash on Highway 250 in the rural municipality of Riverdale, about 10 kilometres north of Highway 1 and between roads 62 N. and 64 N.
Investigators believe the SUV, driven by a 37-year-old woman from Souris, was going north on Highway 250 when she drove across the centre line at a curve in the road and hit the southbound motorcycle.
The motorcyclist had been pronounced deceased by the time police arrived, a Wednesday news release from RCMP said.
The SUV driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and has since been released, RCMP said.
They say they don’t believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, and the woman was wearing a seatbelt.
RCMP are continuing to investigate the incident, with the help of a forensic collision reconstructionist.
