Derailed train closes Highway 16 north of the Trans-Canada in Manitoba

A derailed train has closed a stretch of Highway 16 west of Portage La Prairie Monday morning.

All lanes on Highway 16 are closed and the highway is impassable, the provincial Transportation Department said.

The derailment happened north of the Highway 1 intersection.

Six rail cars derailed at 4:15 a.m., RCMP Sgt. Paul Manaigre said in an email. None carried dangerous goods, and no injuries have been reported.

The CN Police Service is investigating, Manaigre said.
