13 Winnipeg community centres awarded $1.1 million in renovation grants
The holiday season is shining bright for more than a dozen community centres in Winnipeg.
City of Winnipeg will give over $1.1 million in community renovation grants to 13 community centres across the municipality.
“These spaces are the heartbeat of our neighbourhood — places where families gather, children play and residences connect,” Coun. Vivian Santos said at Tuesday’s announcement.
“They foster belonging and create opportunities for recreation, learning and growth.”
Winnipeg Mayor Scott Gillingham, Coun. John Orlikow and Santos made the announcement at the Sir John Franklin site of the Corydon Community Centre, with Gillingham and Orlikow donning Corydon Comets jerseys to celebrate.
The following community centres will receive $1,104,690 total in grants:
- Corydon (Sir John Franklin site).
- Dakota.
- Gateway.
- Greendell Park.
- Maples.
- Northwood.
- Notre Dame.
- Oxford Heights.
- Red River.
- Robert A. Steen.
- Sturgeon Heights.
- Tuxedo.
- Weston.
The community centre renovation grant program provides city-owned, board-run community centres with financial help to do facility repairs, safety improvements, upgrades, retrofits and other renovation projects, a news release from the city said.
The program has two intake periods each year, in March and October.
Launched in 2012, the city program has provided over $18.5 million toward the renovation needs of Winnipeg’s community centres.
