1 person in critical condition after collision on Lagimodiere: Winnipeg police

One person is in critical condition after a multiple-vehicle crash involving at least one semi-trailer on a major route in east Winnipeg Friday morning.

Winnipeg police said officers were called to Lagimodiere Boulevard, between Fermor Avenue and Abinojii Mikanah, around 10:40 a.m., after at least three vehicles, including a passenger vehicle, were involved in a collision. At least one of the vehicles was a semi, a police spokesperson told CBC.

One of the people involved was taken to hospital in critical condition, the spokesperson said. No update on the person’s condition, or on any other injuries, was immediately available, police said Friday afternoon.

North and southbound lanes on Lagimodiere were initially closed between Fermor Avenue and Abinojii Mikanah, police said, but one southbound lane on Lagimodiere Boulevard has since reopened.

Emergency crews were expected to remain on the scene for the rest of Friday afternoon. Police advised motorists to drive with caution when driving through the area.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
