Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy and charged him with manslaughter after a 15-year-old was fatally shot earlier this month in Winnipeg’s St. James neighbourhood.
On Sunday, police arrested the 17-year-old in connection with the March 6 shooting death of the teen, a Tuesday news release said.
Investigators believe the 15-year-old boy and his older brother were involved in an altercation with a group of people in the area of Ness Avenue and Sackville Street. Both brothers were shot.
They made their way down Amherst Street towards Bruce Avenue, where police allege they encountered a 17-year-old boy they knew, who was armed with a gun. The 15-year-old was shot again and critically injured, police say.
The younger brother later died of his injuries, while the older brother was treated in hospital.
The Winnipeg Police Service’s homicide unit is still investigating the shootings. They ask anyone with information to contact the homicide unit at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477 (TIPS).
