2 men stabbed in unprovoked attack at Polo Park shopping centre: police

Two men were stabbed in what police say was an unprovoked attack at a Winnipeg mall Tuesday afternoon.

Police got a report shortly before 4 p.m.of a stabbing at the Polo Park shopping centre.

When officers arrived, they found two men — a 46-year-old and 48-year-old — suffering from upper-body injuries after being stabbed, police said in a Wednesday news release.

It’s believed the two victims were sitting on a bench in the mall when they were approached and confronted by another man, police say. Without provocation, the man produced a knife and a physical altercation ensued, during which the two victims were stabbed, according to police.

The two men were able to restrain the man accused in the attack, with help from mall security, until officers arrived and arrested him. Both men were taken to hospital in stable condition and treated for their injuries.

Two knives were seized as evidence, police said.

A 20-year-old Winnipeg man faces two charges of assault, a charge of possession of a weapon and two charges of failing to complying with conditions of a release order.

He was released on an undertaking.
