312 new COVID-19 cases, no deaths reported in Manitoba

Manitoba public health officials announced 312 new COVID-19 cases and no additional deaths on Wednesday.

The province released the data nearly two hours later than usual due to a technical glitch, officials said.

The total number of people in hospital with COVID increased slightly to 318, from 314 on Tuesday. However, the number of people in intensive care units decreased to 74 from 79 on Tuesday.

That doesn’t include at least 18 critically ill COVID-19 patients transferred to hospitals in Ontario as Manitoba struggles to create room in its strained ICUs. The province has not provided an update Wednesday on the number of patients sent out of province.

The number of Manitobans who have died from COVID since the start of the pandemic remains at 1,035.

Another 314 cases of more contagious variants have been discovered and a previously announced death was caused by a variant. The death would have been announced earlier but only recently determined to be caused by a variant due to the time it takes to test for variants.
