63-year-old driver dead after truck hits grader, rolls into ditch near Berens River

A 63-year-old man is dead after his five-ton transport truck crashed with a grader and rolled into a ditch east of Lake Winnipeg earlier this week, Manitoba RCMP say.

Officers responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision 20 kilometres south of Berens River around 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, RCMP said in a Thursday news release.

The driver of the truck was travelling northbound on an all-weather road, when his vehicle struck the blade and rear part of a grader that was also travelling northbound, police said.

The truck rolled onto its side and into a ditch. The 63-year-old driver, from the rural municipality of St. Andrews, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the grader, a 40-year-old man, was not injured in the collision.
