Boy, 16, arrested in fatal shooting of Misipawistik Cree Nation man
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old man who died after being shot in a northern Manitoba community just after midnight on Monday.
Grand Rapids RCMP officers were called with reports of a shooting at a home in Misipawistik Cree Nation around 12:35 a.m. on Monday, police said in a news release Tuesday.
Officers found a 23-year-old Misipawistik Cree Nation man who had been shot at the home. He was pronounced dead at the scene, RCMP said.
A police investigation led to the arrest of a 16-year-old boy from Chemawawin Cree Nation. He has since been charged with numerous firearms-related offences and remains in police custody, police said.
Grand Rapids RCMP, along with the RCMP’s major crime services and forensic identification services, continue to investigate the homicide.
Misipawistik Cree Nation is on the western shore of Lake Winnipeg, about 400 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
