Cyclist, 67, dies in crash with stopped semi-trailer truck

A 67-year-old man is dead after he crashed into the rear-end of a parked semi-trailer truck while riding on a bicycle at a high rate of speed last week, Winnipeg police say.

Police were called to Kenaston Boulevard, south of Waverley Street, just before 2:30 p.m. on Friday to investigate reports of a crash involving a cyclist and a semi-trailer.

The cyclist was riding at a high rate of speed when he crashed into the rear of the semi, police said.

The trailer was parked, with its hazard lights on, on the northbound shoulder of Kenaston Boulevard at the time of the crash, police said in a news release Tuesday.

The cyclist was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he later died. Police said his family has been notified.

The investigation continues and anyone with information or dashcam footage from the crash is asked to contact the Winnipeg Police Service traffic division at 204-986-7085 or make an anonymous report via Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS.
