Cyclist throws bike at vehicle in road rage incident in Winnipeg: police

An angry cyclist, who took exception to sharing the road with a passing vehicle, threw his bike at the car and threatened the driver with a knife, Winnipeg police say.

A 45-year-old man is charged with assault with a weapon, identity fraud and carrying a concealed weapon.

The vehicle, driven by a 23-year-old man, was on James Avenue heading toward Main Street — near city hall — around 7 p.m. Wednesday, police said in a news release Friday.

The 45-year-old was riding in the area when he got off and threw the bicycle at the vehicle, police allege. The driver stopped and got out to remove the bike, which had become lodged under the vehicle, the news release said.

That’s when the cyclist yelled obscenities and threatened the driver with the weapon, police allege. The 23-year-old got back into his vehicle and drove off, then called police.

Officers immediately found the suspect and seized a knife.

The 45-year-old gave a false name during the arrest but was properly identified while being processed, police said.
