Diners at St. Vital restaurant disarm robber, restrain him until police arrive
A robbery at a St. Vital restaurant was foiled by customers who disarmed the man and restrained him until police arrived.
The incident happened sometime before 6:20 p.m. on Monday on Meadowood Drive, near St. Vital Centre, says a news release from the Winnipeg Police Service.
Police say a man entered the restaurant with his face covered while wielding a sharp edged weapon, and demanded money from two employees.
Several customers intervened, disarmed the suspect and restrained him until police got there, the news release says.
The accused man suffered minor injuries and was assessed by Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service members at the scene.
A 35-year-old man was arrested and charged with robbery, possession of a weapon and disguise with intent.
He was released on an undertaking.
