Elgin man, 60, killed in single-vehicle crash in southwestern Manitoba
A 60-year-old Elgin man is dead after his vehicle hit a ditch at high speed and rolled over in southwestern Manitoba on Thursday afternoon, RCMP say.
Killarney RCMP got a report about the crash just after 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, police said in a Friday news release.
Officers who responded found an SUV in a ditch. Emergency medical services and the Dunrea Fire Department were already at the scene, but the 60-year-old man was pronounced dead shortly after RCMP arrived.
They say their investigation has determined the SUV was travelling westbound on Highway 23, about five kilometres from Ninette, when it entered the ditch at high speed, and then hit an approach before rolling several times.
The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was not wearing a seatbelt when the SUV crashed, according to RCMP.
Police said the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
