Officers responded to the incident around 3:40 p.m. on Sunday, Mounties said in a news release on Wednesday.

Police said a group of kids ranging in age from five to 12 were swimming when the girl went under. The other children ran to get help, and an adult pulled the girl out of the water and started first aid.

She was later taken to the nursing station, where she was pronounced dead, Mounties said.
