Man accused of threatening workers, helping himself to McDonald’s food for 1½ hours

A 40-year-old man allegedly armed with a pipe entered the kitchen of a fast-food restaurant and stole food, spit on an employee and then fled, Winnipeg police say.

The man has been charged with robbery, possession of a weapon and assaulting a peace officer with a weapon.

Rajwinder Kaur, the manager of the Grant Avenue McDonald’s west of Assiniboine Park, told CBC News she was there when it happened.

Kaur says the man came in yelling and was being aggressive toward multiple customers.

The man then went into the kitchen and help himself to food and drinks multiple times, eating it in the dining area of the restaurant, she said.

The whole incident lasted about 1½ hours, after which he left the restaurant and entered an unoccupied sanding truck in the parking lot, police said in a news release Monday. He then drove the truck into a police cruiser.

No injuries have been reported.
