Man charged in death of Tataskweyak Cree Nation man found: RCMP

A 38-year-old man who fled the scene of a fatal shooting at an isolated camp in northern Manitoba has been arrested, RCMP say.

Gillam RCMP received a report of a shooting and went to the camp, roughly 75 kilometres east of Split Lake, just before noon on Monday, they said in a news release on Wednesday.

They found a 53-year-old man from Tataskweyak Cree Nation dead. RCMP have not identified the victim, but his death is being investigated as a homicide.

A warrant for the arrest of 38-year-old Jamie Flett, also from Tataskweyak, was issued Tuesday. Police said he fled the camp before police arrived. In an update Wednesday evening, police announced he was found and arrested.

Police had charged the man with second-degree murder in connection to the fatal shooting. They said he and the victim knew each other.

Tataskweyak, which is at Split Lake, is more than 700 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
