Man charged with impaired driving in 2023 crash that killed 82-year-old: Manitoba RCMP
A 37-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged in connection with a 2023 crash in southeastern Manitoba that killed an 82-year-old Lac du Bonnet man, Manitoba RCMP say.
On Aug. 1, 2023, a pickup truck crashed into the back of the 82-year-old’s minivan at the intersection of Provincial Road 313 and Channel Drive, about 15 kilometres east of Lac du Bonnet, police previously said.
The driver of the minivan was thrown from his vehicle during the crash and pronounced dead at the scene, RCMP said. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
On Wednesday, RCMP said they had charged the 37-year-old pickup truck driver following “an in-depth investigation and in consultation with Manitoba Public Prosecution Service.”
The man was arrested on Sept. 17 and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and driving while impaired by a drug, a news release from RCMP said.
He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear on Nov. 4 in provincial court in Beausejour.
