Man, woman arrested in death of 46-year-old Nunavut man who was stabbed and robbed in May

Winnipeg police have arrested two people in connection with the death of a man who was stabbed during a robbery earlier this year.

Officers responding to reports of an injured man on Portage Avenue and Arlington Street on May 12 found a man on the ground who was later identified as Jack Jacques Kabluitok, 46.

Kabluitok received emergency medical care, including a chest seal and compressions, before he was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he later died.

Kabluitok had been confronted by two people who robbed and then assaulted him, police said in a news release Wednesday.

The interaction escalated and Kabluitok was stabbed, causing fatal injuries, police said.

Kabluitok was from Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, but was living in Winnipeg at the time of his death.

Police arrested two suspects Tuesday in connection with Kabluitok’s death.

A 32-year-old man has since been charged with manslaughter and robbery. A 21-year-old woman is charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The man and woman are being held in police custody.
