RCMP identify man found dead in Red River north of Winnipeg in September
Manitoba RCMP have identified the body of a man pulled from the Red River in September as a 29-year-old who was reported missing.
Selkirk RCMP said in September that a body had been found floating in the river in the rural municipality of East St. Paul, northwest of Birds Hill, on Sept. 21. Police said at the time an autopsy had been done and the cause of death was not criminal in nature, but they had not identified the man.
RCMP released a composite sketch of the man last month in an effort to identify him.
In an update Wednesday, they said he had been identified as a 29-year-old man from Winnipeg, who was reported missing to Winnipeg police on Oct. 8. They did not release his name.
Police say their investigation, along with the autopsy, has determined the man’s death wasn’t criminal in nature.
