What’s open and closed on Labour Day in Manitoba

Labour Day is approaching, and Manitobans who want to get out of the house and enjoy the last long weekend of summer will have a variety of options.

Shopping

Kildonan Place, St. Vital Centre, Polo Park and Outlet Collection Winnipeg will all be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday. Grant Park Shopping Centre will be open from noon to 5 p.m.

Garden City Shopping Centre and Portage Place will be closed.

Brandon’s Shoppers Mall will be closed on Monday.

The Forks Market in Winnipeg will operate under its regular hours over the long weekend, but some retail tenants may choose to open earlier or later at their discretion.

All Liquor Marts in Winnipeg will operate on Sunday’s schedule — 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. — on Monday, with the exception of the True North Square Liquor Mart, which will be closed.

Liquor stores in Brandon and some rural communities in Manitoba will also be open, but with varying operating hours. Specific store hours can be found on the website.

Hours for grocery stores vary by location, but many will be open on Monday.

Museums, galleries and recreation

The Manitoba government is offering free admission to all provincial parks from Friday to Monday.

All City of Winnipeg indoor pools, fitness and leisure centres will be closed on Monday. However, select spray pads, as well as outdoor and wading pools will be open. More information can be found on the city’s website.

City-run golf courses in Winnipeg at Crescent Drive, Kildonan Park and Windsor Park will be open, weather permitting.

The Manitoba Museum will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday. The Manitoba Children’s Museum will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights will be closed on Monday, but there will be free admission on Sunday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The Assiniboine Park Zoo will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and The Leaf will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday.

The Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Royal Aviation Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday.

Government services

Most government offices will be closed on Monday. 

The Winnipeg Parking Authority office will be closed over the long weekend, but people can still pay for parking tickets online.

Canada Post will not be collecting or delivering mail, but privately operated post offices may be open under their own individually set hours.

Transit

City buses in Brandon and Winnipeg will run on a Sunday schedule on Monday.

Garbage and recycling

Garbage, recycling and yard waste services will run as scheduled for Winnipeggers who have Monday as their collection day. To figure out what your collection day is, visit the city’s webpage, download the Recyclepedia app, or call 311 or email 311@winnipeg.ca.

Winnipeg’s Brady Road landfill will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday for commercial customers only. The Brady 4R Winnipeg Depot will be open for residential customers from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, but the Pacific and Panet 4R Winnipeg depots will be closed.

Brandon’s Eastview Landfill will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Animal services

Winnipeg’s animal services agency will be closed on Monday. For more information about renewing or purchasing a pet licence online and to look at dogs that are available for adoption, visit the animal services website

Libraries

All Winnipeg Public Library locations will be closed on Sunday and Monday. More information about the library branch locations and hours are available on the city’s website.

The Brandon Public Library will also be closed Monday.

Cemeteries

Winnipeg’s Brookside, Transcona and St. Vital cemeteries will remain open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., but the administration office at Brookside Cemetery will be closed on Monday.

The Brandon Municipal Cemetery will be open from dawn until dusk.
