Winnipeg police charge 2nd person with 1st-degree murder of man found dead outside church

Winnipeg police have charged a second person with first-degree murder after a 20-year-old man was found dead outside a church in the North End late last year.

Police arrested Victoria Andrews, 26, at the Headingley Women’s Correctional Centre on Tuesday, where she was being held for an unrelated matter. She remains in custody, police said in a news release on Wednesday.

Police officers found the body of a man identified as Brooklyn Elijah Hiebert after they were called to Flora Avenue, between Robinson and King streets, on Dec. 30 at 3 p.m.

Hiebert was fatally assaulted by another man nearby on Selkirk Avenue and then his body was moved and abandoned outside the church, police previously said.

In July, police arrested and charged Christopher Wattman, 36, with first-degree murder. He’s remained in custody since, police said.

Police ask anyone with information regarding the homicide, including video surveillance, to contact investigators at 204-986-6508 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
