Winnipeg police identify victim of fatal Portage Avenue collision as 40-year-old pedestrian
The person killed in a Friday morning crash that sent three others to hospital was a 40-year-old pedestrian, Winnipeg police say.
An eastbound pickup truck hit a bus shelter and hydro pole near Portage and Bedson Street in west Winnipeg, before continuing across Bedson and hitting a Canadian Tire gas bar, police said Friday.
A second damaged vehicle, a smaller SUV, could also be seen Friday morning on Bedson, surrounded by yellow police tape.
Police did not initially say if the person who died was in the pickup or somewhere else in the area, but clarified in an update Friday afternoon that the victim was a pedestrian.
In an update Saturday, police released the name of the 40-year-old pedestrian and said their family has been notified. CBC is not naming the victim at this time.
On Saturday afternoon, flower bouquets had been placed at the site.
Paramedics provided medical aid to three other people at the scene of the crash on Friday. Two were taken to hospital in unstable condition and one in stable condition, but all three are now in stable condition, police said Saturday.
