Winnipeg police investigating death of man from Berens River First Nation as homicide
A 34-year-old man from Berens River First Nation died on Sunday after Winnipeg police found him unresponsive in the Weston neighbourhood.
Police were called to Blake Street near Logan Avenue shortly before 7 a.m. to investigate a report of a man who had been assaulted, a news release said on Monday.
With the assistance of the K-9 unit, police found Justin Boulanger inside a suite in an apartment building, Const. Stephen Spencer said.
Police officers provided emergency medical treatment before he was taken to hospital in critical condition, but he died.
Police are investigating his death as a homicide.
Spencer could not release details on the extent of Boulanger’s injuries or whether police believe the assault was targeted or a random attack.
“At this point we’re only hours since this has occurred, and the homicide unit has taken over the investigation,” he said.
Boulanger lived in Winnipeg. His family members have been notified of his death, police said.
