Winnipeg woman, 29, died in hospital Sunday in what police say was a homicide

Norma Jean Sumner, a Dauphin River First Nation member who was found critically injured in central Winnipeg on Sunday and later died in hospital, was a victim of a homicide, police believe.

Central district general patrol officers received a report of an injured woman on Balmoral Street between Qu’Appelle and Cumberland avenues at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, police said in a news release Monday.

They found Sumner, 29, with life-threatening injuries.

She was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died. 

Sumner was a member of Dauphin River First Nation in northern Manitoba who was living in Winnipeg, police said. 

Officers said they have notified the family. 

The homicide unit is investigating. No arrests have been made.
