Woman dies in head-on collision on Highway 59

A 44-year-old woman died early Tuesday morning after the vehicle she was in crashed head-on into another vehicle on Highway 59 near Niverville, RCMP say.

The woman, from New Bothwell, Man., was driving south and her vehicle crossed the centre line near Stott Road and crashed head-on into a northbound vehicle with a 52-year-old man, also from New Bothwell, at the wheel, police said in a news release Tuesday.

The woman was pronounced dead at the site of the crash, police said.

The 52-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Highway 59 was closed in the area, which is south of Winnipeg, for part of Tuesday morning but has since reopened.
