Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Guildford Street fire

Released: 9:02 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:30 p.m. on August 28, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of smoke and the smell of burning in a one and a half storey home in the 300 block of Guildford Street.

Once on scene, crews found light smoke in the home and used thermal imaging cameras to find an area burning in the walls of the attic. Walls were taken down to allow firefighters access to the fire, and by 12:31 a.m. they declared it under control.

Occupants of the home safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.

  • Northbound and southbound Memorial Boulevard, from Broadway to York Avenue
  • Eastbound York Avenue, from Osborne Street to Garry Street
  • Southbound Garry Street, from St. Mary Avenue to Broadway
  • Eastbound Broadway, from Osborne Street to Memorial Boulevard
  • Westbound Broadway, from Edmonton Street to Memorial Boulevard
  • Westbound Broadway, from Fort Street to Memorial Boulevard
  • Northbound Edmonton Street, from Broadway to York Avenue
  • Northbound Hargrave Street, from Broadway to York Avenue
  • Northbound Smith Street, from Broadway to York Avenue
  • Southbound Kennedy Street, from St. Mary Avenue to York Avenue
  • Southbound Carlton Street, from St. Mary Avenue to York Avenue
  • Southbound Donald Street, from St. Mary Avenue to York Avenue
  • Southbound Garry Street, from St. Mary Avenue to York Avenue

Pedestrian access will be maintained. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes during this time.
