Sgt. Paul Manaigre told 680CJOB it appears to be an isolated incident, and that “the person that discharged the firearm and the complainant were known to each other.”

He said it’s believed the suspect left the area and might be travelling towards Arborg, “so officers are on route to that area now.” He said the suspect might be driving a white Dodge Caravan.

Manaigre confirmed two schools were placed in lockdown out of “an abundance of caution. We wanted to keep everybody safe.”

Evergreen School Division posted a notice on its website saying “we have just received confirmation from RCMP that we may release our students at 3:30 as per usual.”

The situation is still unfolding Manaigre said, and encouraged residents to be vigilant, take precautions, and call in anything suspicious.

“Hopefully we’ll have a resolution to this shortly,” he said.
