Christmas Cheer Board has hundreds of extra hampers

The Christmas Cheer Board has lots to give this holiday season, with hundreds of extra hampers ready for pick-up.

In a news release on Sunday, the organization said it ordered extra food back in November as numbers were projected to shatter last year’s record applications. However, since then, applications have slowed down and the Cheer Board is left with 500 extra hampers.

Susan Gill, donations officer with the Christmas Cheer Board, said last year the Christmas Cheer Board fell short on hampers, which she described as “heartbreaking.”

“We compensated for that, and we might have overcompensated a little bit, but we want it to go to people that need it,” she said.

“So, if there’s people out there who haven’t applied, you’re welcome to come down to 895 Century and apply.”

Now, the Christmas Cheer Board is urging other organizations to let their applicants know they can apply to the Cheer Board at 204-989-5683.

Anything leftover by Dec. 28 will go back into the community through Harvest Manitoba and other groups.

New applicants will need to pick up their hamper at the Cheer Board’s location at 895 Century St.

The Christmas Cheer Board’s hours of operation for the rest of the week are Dec. 23 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Dec. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; closed Dec. 25 and 26; and open for pick-ups on Dec. 27 and 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
