Christmas Cheer Board needs drivers to help deliver gifts

With less than two weeks to go before Christmas, a local organization delivering holiday cheer needs your help.

The Christmas Cheer Board needs drivers to help deliver gifts to families in need, noting there are approximately 10,000 hampers still in need of delivery.

“Today, we’ve probably had about 50 drivers come in, because of the sheer volume that we still have to go out on the floor. We need to see those numbers creep up significantly,” said Shawna Bell, the executive director of the Christmas Cheer Board.

Bell said last year, more than 700 drivers helped deliver hampers around the city.

She said for those interested, there is no need to call ahead or register.

“We’ll take you to an area of the city that you want to deliver to, and we’ll set you up with probably about four different hampers going out to the families located closely in the area, and then we’ll see you out the door,” she said.

Each driver has a sheet with addresses that they mark and return to the Cheer Board to show it has been successfully delivered.

“We’re just happy to see folks come in the doors and want to do deliveries for us,” Bell said.

The Christmas Cheer Board’s warehouse is located at 895 Century Street and is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends. The last day for deliveries is Dec. 23.
