Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for much of south-central and southeastern Manitoba as well as the Interlake on Sunday afternoon, while several warnings have ended.

The weather agency had issued severe thunderstorm warnings around 4 p.m. for the city of Winnipeg and areas extending north to Teulon, as well as for part of the Red River Valley.

All warnings were ended by 5 p.m.

A thunderstorm watch remains in place from Portage la Prairie in the west to Vita in the east, and north to the Lundar area.

Environment Canada says the area of thunderstorms had drifted northeast from North Dakota into southern Manitoba on Sunday afternoon, and will push eastward throughout the afternoon and evening.

Heavy rainfall and strong winds are the main hazards from these storms, according to the agency.
