Investigation launched into Manitoban’s death after medical emergency at dental appointment
The Manitoba Dental Association (MDA) said it will investigate a critical incident where a young woman from the Morden-Winkler area died following a dental appointment.
The association said in a news release Monday a medical emergency developed during the woman’s dental appointment. Emergency responders took her to hospital where she later died.
According to the organization, information is still being gathered and processed following the critical incident.
“Our deepest sympathies are with the friends and family of this young woman,” MDA president Dr. Daron Baxter said in the news release.
“This is a tragic outcome, and we are doing everything we can to understand what occurred. As a holder of the public trust and regulatory body of Manitoba dentists, we are following established protocols.”
MDA said an investigative process will be launched to gather facts surrounding the incident.
At this point, Dr. Baxter said they do not have all the information.
“Tragedies, like this, involving dental treatment are rare. But they are taken seriously,” she said.
“The MDA will prioritize finding answers and throughout the process we will hold the public’s interest and protection at the forefront.”
This is a developing story. More details to come.
