What’s open and closed on Canada Day long weekend in Manitoba

With Canada Day just around the corner, some places in Manitoba are changing their hours or closing over the long weekend.

Here’s a look at what’s open and closed on Canada Day.

Shopping

On Monday, these Winnipeg shopping malls will be closed:

Garden City Shopping Centre.
Grant Park Shopping Centre.
Portage Place.
St. Vital Centre.

But those looking to get some shopping done can visit Kildonan Place, Outlet Collection Winnipeg or CF Polo Park from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Liquor Marts in Winnipeg and Brandon are open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, except the one in True North Square, which is closed. Hours vary for rural Liquor Marts.

The Forks Market is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Monday.

Entertainment

The Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq is closed on Monday.

So are all indoor city-run pools, and city fitness and leisure centres. All Winnipeg Public Library branches will be closed on both Sunday and Monday.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. over the entire long weekend, and will offer free admission on Sunday and Monday.

The Assiniboine Park Zoo is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Manitoba Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Children’s Museum is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

City-run golf courses in Winnipeg at Crescent Drive, Kildonan Park and Windsor Park are open, weather permitting.

All city-run outdoor pools in Winnipeg, including heated and non-heated pools and spray pads, will be open, with the exception of St. Vital Outdoor Pool (which is expected to open on Friday, July 5). Wading pools will begin opening on a staggered basis on Monday.

Winnipeg Transit

Winnipeg Transit will operate on a holiday service schedule on Monday.

The city will also be making buses available on an as-needed basis for the Canada Day event at Princess Auto Stadium, enhancing service on the Blue rapid transit line between Stadium Station and Seel Station. Regular transit fares apply.

There will also be a free shuttle bus between Canada Day events at The Forks and Assiniboine Park. The Winnipeg 150 shuttle will depart in each direction approximately every half hour between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Passengers at Assiniboine Park can cross the foot bridge to catch the shuttle on eastbound Portage Avenue at Overdale Street, the city says. At The Forks, the shuttle will stop at northbound Israel Asper Way, in front of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

Garbage, mail service

The Brady Road landfill will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for residential customers, and from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. for commercial customers.

Canada Post is closed, with no collection or delivery of mail.

Cemeteries

The Brookside, Transcona, and St. Vital cemeteries will remain open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., but Brookside Cemetery’s administration office will be closed on Monday.
