Winnipeg home to be demolished following late-night fire
The City of Winnipeg will demolish a home in the Glenelm neighbourhood that caught fire late Tuesday.
At 11:28 p.m., the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a fire in a vacant bi-level house in the 200 block of Redwood Avenue.
Heavy smoke and flames were seen coming from the home, preventing firefighters from going inside. Crews fought the fire from the outside and declared it under control at 12:47 a.m.
The building was previously damaged by a fire in December 2022. It has sustained significant smoke, water and fire damage, and emergency demolition is being arranged, the city said. Road closures will remain in place until demolition work is finished.
Crews remain on scene battling hot spots. Water used to fight the fire has frozen and created slippery conditions on roads and sidewalks, and the city is reminding people to use caution in the area.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and no injuries were reported.
