Is it time for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to worry about their high-priced kicker Justin Medlock?

Head coach Mike O’Shea says not a chance.

Medlock missed all three of his field goal attempts during Saturday’s 28-19 win over the Edmonton Eskimos and clanged a convert attempt off an upright. Though he’s the most accurate kicker in the history of the CFL, his numbers this year are sub-standard.

Medlock has made 78% of his kicks, and just 53% from outside 40 yards. He sits 10th in the league among place kickers in terms of field goal percentage.

“That doesn’t matter,” O’Shea said. “He’s as professional as they come. He’ll work some things out. This is the idea of football. It’s the greatest team sport for a reason. We’ve got a bunch of guys that have got his back and they are making plays for him out there. They just have their teammates backs and they love the opportunity. It’s never a problem if something is a little off.”

Medlock has three last-play, game-winning kicks for the Bombers this year so he has been a major contributor to their 10-3 record.

“I’m not worried about Justin Medlock,” O’Shea said. “He’s the best in the league ever for a reason.”
