Police say they’re investigating the death of a 16-year-old girl found in the northern Manitoba community of Easterville on Friday morning as a homicide.

RCMP were called just after 2 a.m. to what they describe in a news release as “an open area” in the community about 390 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.

The girl had obvious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, RCMP said in a Friday news release.

A male has been arrested but charges have not yet been laid, RCMP said.

A spokesperson told CBC News the area where the girl was found was a field or an undeveloped lot.

He did not have an age for the person arrested.

The investigation is ongoing.
