Man charged with 2nd-degree murder in connection with stabbing in central Winnipeg
A 21-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with a verbal confrontation that escalated to the fatal stabbing of Jamal Eli Preston Miles, 23, earlier this month.
Naustin William Beardy was arrested Monday at the Winnipeg Remand Centre, where he was being held for an unrelated matter, police said in an updated news release on Tuesday.
He remains in custody.
Police officers were called to Alexander Avenue, between Isabel and Sherbrook streets near Dufferin School, to investigate a report of an injured man around 8:45 p.m. on Nov. 8.
They found Miles, who was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died, police said.
Police previously said several people were involved in an argument outside that escalated. They fled before police arrived.
Miles lived in Winnipeg and is a member of Shamattawa First Nation.
