The Canadian women’s soccer team opened its Olympic title defence with a 2-1 comeback win over No. 28 New Zealand on Thursday in Group A play at Geoffroy-Guichard Stadium in Saint-Étienne, France.

Cloé Lacasse and Evelyne Viens scored for Canada, which next faces No. 2 France on Sunday before finishing group play against No. 22 Colombia on July 31.
