Man who went missing in northern Manitoba woods found dead: Nelson House RCMP

The body of a 36-year-old man has been found days after he and a 20-year-old went missing in a forested area in northern Manitoba.

The 36-year-old’s remains were found in marshy wooded area about 300 metres from the camp where he and the 20-year-old were last seen Monday afternoon, RCMP said in a release Friday. The two men were reported missing on Tuesday.

Both men were seeing entering a forested area from the camp along Provincial Road 391 near Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation, also known as Nelson House.

RCMP, First Nations safety officers and local search teams immediately started searching, police said.

The 20-year-old emerged from the area Wednesday around 11:30 a.m., police said. He was treated at a nursing station for non-life-threatening injuries related to cold temperatures.

A police service dog and Winnipeg Search and Rescue also joined the search. The service dog found the body Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

The RCMP said the death does not appear to be criminal, but an autopsy will be performed.

Nelson House is about 65 kilometres west of Thompson, Man., and around 670 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
