A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a cyclist in a Thursday hit and run in Winnipeg.

Police say Beckham Keneth Severight was behind the wheel of a speeding BMW when it struck and killed a 61-year-old cyclist on Wellington Crescent Thursday morning.

Officers were called to Wellington at Cockburn Street N. around 7 a.m.

The cyclist was rushed to hospital in critical condition and later died. Police recovered the vehicle later in the day but said nothing at that time about any arrests.

Severight is charged with dangerous driving causing death and failing to stop at the scene, police said in a news release Friday.
