1 person in hospital, 1 cat at animal services after Collegiate Avenue house fire
One person is in hospital in unstable condition after a fire overtook a home in Winnipeg’s King Edward neighbourhood on Monday afternoon.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a report of a house in flames on Collegiate Street at 12:19 p.m., and fire crews arrived to find thick smoke billowing out of the home as the fire tore through, according to a Monday news release.
The occupants had gotten out of the house before the fire crews arrived, the release said. Firefighters assessed one person and brought them to hospital in unstable condition.
Fire crews drenched the flames with water from hose lines to put out the fire, and once under control, they searched the smoldering structure and found a cat inside.
The city’s Animal Services Agency were called to care for the pet.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
