Fire crews helped six people escape a house in Winnipeg’s Spence neighbourhood after a fire early Saturday, the City of Winnipeg says.

First responders went to a two-storey home on Furby Street, in between Cumberland and Sargent avenues, around 3:30 a.m. Saturday after receiving reports of a fire, the city said in a news release.

Smoke and fire were coming from the house when they arrived. Firefighters fought the fire from inside the home and it was declared under control shortly before 4 a.m.

Firefighters helped six people get out of the house. Though all of them were assessed by paramedics, the city says none needed to be taken to hospital. No other injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not yet available.
