Greg Selinger to address allegations former MLA Stan Struthers inappropriately touched women

Former premier Greg Selinger will hold a news conference at 12:30 p.m. to address allegations former MLA Stan Struthers inappropriately touched multiple women during his time in office.

A recent CBC News investigation revealed five women, including a former NDP cabinet colleague, accused Struthers of several instances of inappropriate touching dating back at least eight years. More women came forward after the initial story.

CBC News will live stream Selinger’s 12:30 p.m. CT news conference above.

CBC reported that party officials received at least three complaints about Struthers, nicknamed “Minister Tickles,” from 2010 to 2015.

Then chief of staff Michael Balagus, who now holds that position with the Ontario NDP, was put on leave by the Ontario New Democrats late last week after he was accused of not taking complaints against Struthers seriously.

Struthers left provincial politics in 2016. He was one of five cabinet ministers who resigned in 2014 in a revolt against Selinger.

Selinger resigned as NDP leader following an election loss in April 2016 to the Progressive Conservatives. He remains the NDP MLA for St. Boniface.
