Heavy rainfall is soaking Manitoba’s far north, leading to alerts about possible flooding in low-lying areas and washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Churchill and Tadoule Lake.

As of 4 a.m. Thursday, Churchill had already received 24 millimetres of rain and Tadoule Lake had reported 61 mm over the past 24 hours.

Another 10-20 mm are expected in Churchill by Friday morning, and Tadoule Lake is forecast to get an additional 30-50 mm in the same time period, the weather agency said.

The rain will continue Thursday through much of northern Manitoba, the warning said.

Rain or drizzle is also expected on Friday before the sky begins to clear by Saturday morning.
