Norway House woman dies after stabbing in Winnipeg’s core

A woman from Norway House Cree Nation is dead after she was stabbed last week in an apartment in Winnipeg’s core, police say.

Officers were called to an apartment complex on Sargent Avenue, between Spence and Edmonton streets, shortly before 8 p.m. that day about reports of a stabbing.

Police found a woman suffering from a serious injury sustained during a stabbing, according to a Winnipeg police news release on Tuesday.

Officers provided care until an ambulance arrived and rushed her to hospital in critical condition.

Rachel Muswagon, 37, of Norway House, was pronounced dead in hospital, the release states. Police arrested Dustin Cody Swampy, 29, inside the apartment without incident.

The pair knew each other, police said.

Swampy was charged with second-degree murder and remains in custody.
